Okay, so that’s not really the question, but I couldn’t resist. Obviously, the house needs cleaned.
The real question is WHEN to clean.
I spend Saturdays cleaning, which is fine. But it’s not fun.
I’d rather be doing a million other things. Reading…playing with theBABY…enjoying the recent sunny weather…visiting Target…the list could go on and on. (I mean, how do you truly enjoy your Saturday morning cup of coffee when the floors are screaming that they need washed and the dust bunnies are all but hopping into your mug?)
This is why I’ve decided to do my first poll.
Please, please, please take part in my poll!! I want to know what works for you!
And I want to know my options….so if you don’t see your cleaning routine in the poll, will you leave a comment? Please? Pretty Please?
Oh, and even if you do see a suitable answer, will you leave details in the comment section? What day of the week…or how do you break it up…or who do you pay…or whatever else I may need to know! Thanks a bazillion.
You already know my schedule, but after trying so many different options Thursday night works best for me. That way I can enjoy a clean house on the weekend. If I have plans Thursday night I try to clean Wed or Fri night. I also wash floors and change sheets every other week so the off week isn’t so bad!
I may be adopting this, as well.
I usually unfortunately do all my cleaning on Saturdays. It seems to be the only day I don’t have something going on between working full time, cooking dinner every night and PartyLite. I do, however clean the kitchen throughout the week. Every time I cook, I always clean up the kitchen. So that is one room I don’t have to “deep clean” on Saturdays. But I do the toilets, sweeping and everything else big on Saturday mornings (after sleeping in of course)and before I shower (that way I can get good and dirty while cleaning haha)I also usually do laundry on Saturday which ends up being all week. I bring all the clothes downstairs and put a load in, then remember about it Saturday night and it rolls over to Sunday, then Monday, then Tues., etc…. This is such a good post cause I’m always wanting to know other people’s cleaning schedules so I can get good advice and get into a great “routine” for me too!!
JoAnn, you just described me exactly! I hate that laundry turns into a three day event! lol.
I clean by the “company principle.” I invite friends over for dinner or some other reason. This gets me super-charged to get the house in order before their arrival. My dream though, is to eventual make enough money so that I can pay someone else to do it. I really look forward to that day…
Yeah…when we had our house on the market for a short time a couple of years ago, this was a familar routine.
I now clean on Mondays, upstairs and Tuesdays downstairs. When I worked, I cleaned on Thursdays. I got most all of it done because your dad did the bathrooms and kitchen. If you use a crock pot on Thursdays, you can do your cleaning and not have to worry about cooking!! Or, clean one room a night, Monday through Friday. Do the one you dislike the most FIRST!! Good Luck!
I think it may become a week night thing! It really worked out this week, so we’ll see.
I think we’ve talked about this before, and I have to say not being at home this week from 9-4, I totally feel for you! I don’t know how you and Lis get anything done! I do a load of laundry every day, clean the kitchen on Mondays (and also do my freezer stocking), the bathroom on Tuesdays, nothing on Wednesdays (you know, Lazy Wednesdays!) and I clean downstairs and do the boys sheets on Thursdays, and clean upstairs and do our sheets on Fridays. I hope you figure out something that works for you!
Thanks, Tara! I think part of my problem is that I like to clean when the house is empty of people. This week I did it when theBOY wasn’t home and theBABY was in bed. It went super fast! I got the whole thing done in an hour. I knew my time was limited, so I just got it done. On Saturdays, I dilly dally (I’ve never actually typed that phrase before and just realized I have no idea how to spell it), which drags the whole process out!
I usually do it on Saturdays too. I seem to get more done when Matt is home to entertain the little guy. If something really needs attention before the weekend, I try to do it during naptimes, or Matt and I do it together after Logan’s in bed. He’s great about helping, which makes it go fast! Plus our house isn’t that big.
One of the few advantages of a small house!
I clean 1/2 the house one week and the other 1/2 the next week. It isn’t super clean but I know it is clean enough and move on! There are so many other more important things to do. In the season with small children, we just do the best we can. But when I worked full-time, I paid a house keeper to come every other week. I kept driving an old paid off car to justify the cost and it was so so so worth it.
Oh, I do laundry and dishes daily. I try to keep on those.
I’m a stickler about the dishes! I do them at least once a day, Wendy!
My husband has been doing the cleaning for the past year or so. We tried paying someone, but they never cleaned to our standards! My wonderful husband also does the laundry! Cleaning occurs on Friday or Saturday while I’m at work. I actually sort of miss doing it…weird!
BTW, I have a lot of memories cleaning your parents house with you!
Sounds like you found a keeper, Christina! I can’t believe you have memories cleaning with me!? What kind of friend was I? Haha.
I can’t even imagine cleaning the whole house on one day. If my kitchen is clean and things are up off the floor, I feel like I’m living in a palace. Seriously, don’t they say something about cleaning house while the kids are young is like shoveling in a snow storm or something? Totally true. But my 3 almost 4 year old son loves to help me windex. And he likes rinsing dishes too. So that helps
For me, it works best to tackle one or two tasks a day. On Sunday, I take out the trash. On Monday, I usually do laundry. On Tuesday, I clean the dishes. On Wednesday, I sweep & mop the floors…you get the picture. This works best for me because I don’t feel like I’m spending an eternity cleaning! And your mom made a good suggestion: crock-pot meals! If you know you’re going to tackle something big, use that crock-pot! Dinner will cook all day & you won’t have to do a thing!
