Happy October 31st

I’ve never been big on Halloween, but this year theBABY dressed up like a cupcake – a costume she picked out herself in all her I’m-not-even-two-and-I-already-have-an-opinion-about-most-things glory.

We took her trick-or-treating on Saturday, and I spotted this pumpkin. Too cute. Had to share!

Happy Halloween. I’m still pregnant and hoping the baby comes soon…just not today.

Beachy Boy Nursery

The time has finally come to share pictures of our new favorite room! The nursery for the newBABY has been such a fun project to work on with theBOY.

The first time around, we registered for the room decor that matched the Babies ‘R Us bedding we picked out for theBABY. Easy. No thinking required, and the room looks great.

But while we definitely love how her room turned out, there’s just something extra satisfying about doing it all on your own.

This time, we dreamed it up together then set out to make it a reality.

I think we got pretty stinkin’ close to the nursery we imagined back in the summer.

So, here we go…

Now for the details.

Remember this guy?

Well, he caused quite the ordeal.

First theBOY painted him dark brown.
Then blue.
Then brown again, but this time he sanded him to show a bit of his blue layer.
Finally, orange won.

Our fun finds from our summer vacation may be my favorite details.

Okay, maybe these are my favorite.
We found an extremely talented photographer on Etsy from Australia.
Initially we ordered the two photos on the left, then we went back for two more – the one on the right and the one above on the shelf.

The letters above the crib were another trial-&-error-labor-of-love on theBOY’s part.
In the end, he alternated colors with a base color beneath and some skillful sanding.

And let’s talk about these adorable seagulls.
We knew we wanted some whimsical birds to complete the beach theme.
We could NOT find what we were looking for, so theBOY took matters into his own hands.

See the white butterflies down there?
I mentioned them once before. They’re from theBABY’s room.
Well, she had a few leftover so theBOY clipped their wings and spray painted them.
I won’t lie. I had my doubts.
I was wrong. They’re perfect.

One last detail before I go back to dreaming about my water breaking…

See the valance? Another Etsy find. They’re made from burlap, and they’re wonderful.
And below them are must-have room darkening shades in dark brown from Lowes.
I repeat. A MUST HAVE. Truly.

Randomness :: Time, Perspective & Life

Here’s another (slightly disturbing) glimpse at what I’m experiencing during my last weeks of pregnancy number two.

Insert sample of theGIRL’s current thought life here:

OH my! There are only five more weekends to get this place ready for another baby. Oh wait, five weeks is a really long time. But that’s really only 10 days when you consider it in weekends, and we have PLANS for most of those days! But the plans are all things that we’re choosing to do to enjoy the last days of being a family of three. But when will our bedding and curtains for the nursery be here!? Okay, the USPS tracking says the curtains should arrive tomorrow, and I’m sure the bedding isn’t far behind. But what about all the laundry that needs done in my special baby detergent? Not to mention that I haven’t refreshed myself whatsoever when it comes to newborn care. And when do I pack a bag for the hospital? And what goes in it again? Ahhhh!!!!!

Aren’t you glad you’re not in my head?

And here’s another piece of randomness for you (because, really, all I want to do is share pictures of a completed nursery with you).

Have you heard the song If I Die Young by The Band Perry? I love the lyrics.

Here’s a neat cover of the song for you to enjoy.

In the grand scheme of things, life is short (just like a pregnancy).

Whether you die young or old or somewhere in between, life is too short to waste time doing things that won’t even matter in the long run.

So, go give your loved one a hug. Give your pets some undivided attention. Write a thank you note to someone who deserves it. Then write a note to someone who needs encouraged. Call your mom. Dance with your kids. Keep a journal of things you’re thankful for.

Even better, spend some time contemplating eternity. Because eternity IS a long time, and I could use some eternal perspective right about now.

Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven.  But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven. ~Matthew 10:32-33
