You Are Not Stuck

I was planning to write about something completely different this week, but I can’t help climbing up onto my soap box instead. This is a bit of a departure from my norm, so please bare with me.

Today I want to encourage the person who feels stuck. Miserable. Pushed to the breaking point. {Remember my 80 degree day?}

If that’s not you today, feel free to keep reading. Just know this isn’t intended for you.

But if you feel stuck…like things will never change…like there’s no hope in even trying…like you’re ready to just give up…just plain stuck…

Then here’s what I want to say to you: You are absolutely not stuck.

It could be a million different things…
The last ten pounds
The job that’s sucking the life out of you
The job that’s boring you to death
The relationship that you know is wrong
The long, lonely days
The long days spent dreaming an impossible dream
The debt
The need for a life changing faith

Whatever your situation is, things can change.

And you know what else?

You are worth too much to let things just stay the same.

You are worth the hard work it may take for things to change.

You are worth the uncomfortable conversations you may have to have.

The long hours.

The perserverence.

I don’t know what your particular unsticking will look like.

Maybe it’s saying no to new commitments for a month.
Or saying yes to an earlier alarm.
A new workout routine.
Or simply a small change in your perspective.
Or a massive change in your perspective.

It may even require you to ask for help.

Just know: Things can change.

And if you’re like me and can’t stand change? Well, you’re going to have to take a deep breath and get uncomfortable.

If you need help getting started with change, try these three steps. They aren’t magical, but hopefully they’ll spur you toward a path to change.

1) Identify what has you stuck. What’s making life miserable? What’s keeping you from a full life?

2) This is the fun step – think about life unstuck. What does that look like? Pray about what it should look like.

3) Take a step toward that unstuck life by doing one thing today that will help you live the life you just imagined.

So? What has you stuck? Telling someone…actually admitting you need a change and asking for support can make all the difference.

I’ve decided to link up this week for the first time with Write It, Girl!

  1. While change can be scary, unpredictable or even inevitable, I like how you made the point to think about what your new future could look like. Endless possibilities and opportunities await you and all because you took that first step.

    • Some people say the first step is the hardest. At this moment, I have to disagree. It’s definitely the next several that are the scariest.

  2. Trying to change the way I am eating. Not dieting, but a change of lifestyle. Pushing myself to try a gluten free diet to cure/treat an untreatable autoimmune disease that doctors say “good luck” to. It’s hard to have no control over what happens to your body, but am thankful that it’s not terminal. I need to rethink everything I put into my mouth. Sounds easy, but it’s a constant struggle when I love and enjoy food!

    • This is TOUGH. I imagine a gluten-free diet is hard in our culture. I hear wonderful things from people who try it, though!

  3. Love, love, love this! And so nice to meet you via Write It, Girl! I love the name of your blog. Very creative! Thanks for the beautiful encouragement. :)

  4. So thankful you linked this up to Always Alleluia today so I knew to read. And nice to meet you!

I have always thought I handle change well. But I see now I only handle change that doesn’t affect my heart well. Because I see now, when God offers to mold me into something greater, I fight it…

Will be pondering your words today — thank you!!
All for Him with hugs to you,
    Nikki

  5. I tend to be pretty flexible, but I have a child who does not handle change well at all. In watching him struggle, God is teaching me more about havig compassion on those who find change scary and hard. And like Nikki, I am learning that I handle change well to a point, when it gets real painful, that’s when I tend to back away, God’s leading me through a very challenging season, and I am SO thankful for His grace for me and my reluctance towards change. He is so very good and we are so very blessed when we are willing. Thanks so much for linking up- what an honor! :)
