Forgetful Me

Lately, life has been crazy. I’m talking go-go-go, sleep-sleep, go-go-go….repeat.

It’s all good stuff. We’re blessed with good jobs and even more blessed to spend the weekends making a million summer memories.

But here’s the thing.

With all the go-go-going, I’ve been slacking in a few areas. Areas that are important to me. Things like regular exercise, planning meals so I’m not staring into the freezer at 5 p.m., and writing in my journal.

Believe it or not, it’s that last one that’s bothering me the most at the moment. I have a terrible memory, so if I don’t write stuff down chances are good that I’ll never remember.

And I so want to remember these few years that I have babies to cuddle.

I want to remember that at nine months old lilBRO snaps his fingers. Yes, you read that right.

I want to remember the names of bigSIS’ imaginary friends. She has two.

Heck, I even want to remember how I felt the first few weeks of my new job.

In the moment, we think we’ll never forget these kinds of things. How can you forget that your baby snaps his fingers? Or that your toddler made up two friends and named them “Peck” and “Andy.”

But for me, the sad truth is I forget within a year or month or week…

I know this because as I go back and read things I’ve written, I’m often reminded of things I’ve long forgotten.

That’s why I’m excited to give you a peek at a little project I’m working on…

I’ll have full details for you about Project #WriteItDown in the Link Love post at the end of the week. I promise, you don’t have to like to write to join in the fun! I hope you’ll be inspired to join me!

In the meantime, tell me, how do you record memories that you don’t want to forget?

This week I discovered that I can make my links appear purple, which makes me quite happy…

I started following Kris’ blog earlier this year, and oh, she has a way with words! I loved this sweet post about how we hear God. Such a good mommy. Plus, she just gave her blog a really cheery makeover, so go check it out.

Do you follow me on Pinterest yet? Here are a few of my favorite pins of late..

I’m in constant turmoil over whether or not to give up Diet Coke…is it an addiction? Either way, this is adorable.

And I leave you with this. So true. Right?

So, tell me. Do you like my Link Love posts? Should I keep doing them? Let me know in the comments.

Next week I’m announcing something fun! I’m hoping at least a few of you will be as excited as I am about this…stay tuned!

Don’t Miss the Current Thing

Sometimes you just need to lay in the grass and take in the big, blue sky.

20120723-212931.jpg

I captured that sweet moment up there last night. I was up to my elbows in soapy dish water and slightly irritated that theBOY decided to take bigSIS out to hunt for ripe tomatoes.

I wanted her to be in the bathtub getting ready for bed so I could tend to my to-do list guilt-free.

When I stopped to see if their tomato hunt was done yet, I saw them laying there.

I didn’t realize until later that night (when the to-do’s were all done) that I could learn from those dawdlers.

As I rushed around inside checking off my list, they laid leisurely in the soft grass. Neither of them had the next thing on their minds. They were only concerned with the current thing.

The big blue sky.

The story bigSIS was sharing.

The taste of the first ripe cherry tomato of the year. For the record, I’m told it was yummy. And red.

How does a hurry-to-get-it-done girl like me learn to let the dishes stay dirty for another 30 minutes so I don’t miss out on the current thing?

I don’t have the answer, but I sure hope recognizing that fault of mine is a first step.

Are you able to let the chores go and live in the messy moment of the current thing happening?

P.S. I’ve got something brewing that I’m beyond excited about, and it involves YOU if you’re willing to join in the fun. Stay tuned!

Sharing at Kris’ place today.

The last week absolutely flew by!

We ate frozen yogurt.

I gave myself a manicure.

And I made a delicious pasta salad!

Here are two other things I loved this week…

I think I agree 100% with this CNN opinion article. Kids shouldn’t have to grow up so fast.

And I couldn’t get enough of this insane piano performance of the One Direction song What Makes You Beautiful.

That’s all for now. I’m late for a date with my pillow!

I hope you find something that makes for a beautiful weekend! Enjoy!

Do You Know What’s Really in the Bible?

The leadership at our church likes to remind us that our “faith is personal, but it is not private.”

Well, if you know me in real life – even if you go to church with me – it’s likely that we’ve never talked about my faith. Or yours for that matter.

Don’t get me wrong, if you ask me about it I will gladly tell you everything (a few of my old co-workers can attest to that).

The thing is, there’s so much I’m still clueless about regarding my faith. I’m still learning, still digging, still growing.

What I can tell you is that the Bible is my guide. I believe it is the infallible Truth. Written by man, but inspired by God. When I start to dig just a little, I uncover something that makes me want to dig a little more.

Here’s an example. Read this verse about those who are heaven-bound:

Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ ~Matthew 7:21-23

Makes me wonder what the Father’s will is. You, too?

And then the very next verse:

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” ~Matthew 7:24

What words should I hear and put into practice? Well, you’d have to go to the text just before this to learn that. I’m not going to go there right now, but I can tell you that if Jesus says something is wise, I want to know what it is. Especially in light of his warning above.

Do you know what’s really in the Bible?

If you’ve been reading the Bible regularly for years, will you share how you’ve made it a habit?

If you don’t have a habit of reading the Bible and think it’s about time you started, consider joining me for the fall session of HelloMornings. Learn more about HelloMornings and register here tomorrow. You can officially register, or follow along on Twitter (#HelloMornings) for encouragement.

For me, accountability is key to daily reading the Bible. Join me?

Summer is so pretty around here!

I’m excited for a weekend with the family and hoping to catch up on some rest – to slow down.

While I do that, enjoy some of my finds from the week…

Found this post about having a full plate…I’m craving an empty plate this weekend.

And I followed someone’s link to this post about raising boys to know God’s grace.

And, finally, this is my favorite Etsy find in quite some time. Humankind.

Have a beautiful weekend!

Mexican Stuffed Shells

This recipe is a little more involved than I like to get on a week night, but reader JoAnn recommended it so highly that I decided to give it a shot.

Luckily, both babes cooperated with me while I assembled the dish.

Even luckier, it turned out great.

I didn’t have any cream cheese in the house (oops!), so I substituted plain Greek yogurt. Worked like a charm.

You can click on the picture above to Pin it for later, or go directly to the recipe.

Thanks for the recommendation, JoAnn!

Have you found any simple, delicious recipes lately?

When it’s Quiet

Last week I started all over again.

I left my familiar cubicle surrounded by other friendly cubicles for an unfamiliar, cold and quiet office.

And I mean quiet. My door swings shut automatically behind me, people! I can’t even be warm and inviting if I want to be.

You would think my introverted self would be in bliss.

Yes, I get lots of work done. Yes, it’s nice to have my own space.

The thing is, when it’s this quiet, I miss my family. Lots.

I need a busy work day to get me through. To be the reason I kiss those kiddos goodbye in the morning.

I know these new, slightly awkward days are necessary to get me to the productive, energizing days ahead.

But I’m looking forward to knowing what needs done in any given day and getting it done so I can get home to my family.

New beginnings are hard. But once I’m through this part, I know the quiet office will be a welcome escape.

I hope you have an Independence Day escape of your own planned for tomorrow. We’re headed back to the zoo with friends. Here’s one of my favorite pictures from last July 4.
