When it’s Quiet

Last week I started all over again.

I left my familiar cubicle surrounded by other friendly cubicles for an unfamiliar, cold and quiet office.

And I mean quiet. My door swings shut automatically behind me, people! I can’t even be warm and inviting if I want to be.

You would think my introverted self would be in bliss.

Yes, I get lots of work done. Yes, it’s nice to have my own space.

The thing is, when it’s this quiet, I miss my family. Lots.

I need a busy work day to get me through. To be the reason I kiss those kiddos goodbye in the morning.

I know these new, slightly awkward days are necessary to get me to the productive, energizing days ahead.

But I’m looking forward to knowing what needs done in any given day and getting it done so I can get home to my family.

New beginnings are hard. But once I’m through this part, I know the quiet office will be a welcome escape.

I hope you have an Independence Day escape of your own planned for tomorrow. We’re headed back to the zoo with friends. Here’s one of my favorite pictures from last July 4.

Have a beautiful holiday!
