The leadership at our church likes to remind us that our “faith is personal, but it is not private.”
Well, if you know me in real life – even if you go to church with me – it’s likely that we’ve never talked about my faith. Or yours for that matter.
Don’t get me wrong, if you ask me about it I will gladly tell you everything (a few of my old co-workers can attest to that).
The thing is, there’s so much I’m still clueless about regarding my faith. I’m still learning, still digging, still growing.
What I can tell you is that the Bible is my guide. I believe it is the infallible Truth. Written by man, but inspired by God. When I start to dig just a little, I uncover something that makes me want to dig a little more.
Here’s an example. Read this verse about those who are heaven-bound:
Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ ~Matthew 7:21-23
Makes me wonder what the Father’s will is. You, too?
And then the very next verse:
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” ~Matthew 7:24
What words should I hear and put into practice? Well, you’d have to go to the text just before this to learn that. I’m not going to go there right now, but I can tell you that if Jesus says something is wise, I want to know what it is. Especially in light of his warning above.
Do you know what’s really in the Bible?
If you’ve been reading the Bible regularly for years, will you share how you’ve made it a habit?
If you don’t have a habit of reading the Bible and think it’s about time you started, consider joining me for the fall session of HelloMornings. Learn more about HelloMornings and register here tomorrow. You can officially register, or follow along on Twitter (#HelloMornings) for encouragement.
For me, accountability is key to daily reading the Bible. Join me?
