Forgetful Me

Lately, life has been crazy. I’m talking go-go-go, sleep-sleep, go-go-go….repeat.

It’s all good stuff. We’re blessed with good jobs and even more blessed to spend the weekends making a million summer memories.

But here’s the thing.

With all the go-go-going, I’ve been slacking in a few areas. Areas that are important to me. Things like regular exercise, planning meals so I’m not staring into the freezer at 5 p.m., and writing in my journal.

Believe it or not, it’s that last one that’s bothering me the most at the moment. I have a terrible memory, so if I don’t write stuff down chances are good that I’ll never remember.

And I so want to remember these few years that I have babies to cuddle.

I want to remember that at nine months old lilBRO snaps his fingers. Yes, you read that right.

I want to remember the names of bigSIS’ imaginary friends. She has two.

Heck, I even want to remember how I felt the first few weeks of my new job.

In the moment, we think we’ll never forget these kinds of things. How can you forget that your baby snaps his fingers? Or that your toddler made up two friends and named them “Peck” and “Andy.”

But for me, the sad truth is I forget within a year or month or week…

I know this because as I go back and read things I’ve written, I’m often reminded of things I’ve long forgotten.

That’s why I’m excited to give you a peek at a little project I’m working on…

I’ll have full details for you about Project #WriteItDown in the Link Love post at the end of the week. I promise, you don’t have to like to write to join in the fun! I hope you’ll be inspired to join me!

In the meantime, tell me, how do you record memories that you don’t want to forget?

  1. This is exciting! Taking pictures is my way of remembering. That’s why I have albums upon albums, and I get every picture printed. Sometimes I feel obsessive about it, but I always thank my past self for being so diligent. I also keep really detailed baby books, but I always think that I should be writing down more of the funny things these kiddos say!

    (Snapping??? I’m impressed!)

    • Well, if you join in the fun, that’s EXACTLY what you can do for the next few months. And, I’m so thoughtful, the project lasts through Dec. 24….leaving you with the best Christmas gift ever. :)

And yeah, snapping…lol. It’s really hysterical.

  2. I have a line-a-day journal. I’m not much of a writer but I always make sure to write a couple sentences each day about what is going on in our lives. I’m on my 3rd year and I love reading back to what we the same day 1 and 2 years ago. For remembering my babies stuff, I update their Shutterfly books monthly so I don’t forget things.. Sadly as I was just updating Maggie’s I couldn’t remember a couple things that she learned this month.

  3. This reminded me of the little book I started writing in back in March 2010 when I went on vacation. Wrote mostly about my vacations until I met HIM. Funny I just picked it up & my last entry was Oct 2011. Need to get back to it! Thanks for the reminder. I’ll be waiting for project details!

  4. Since I’m not much of a writer, i take a lot of photos to help me tell a story. i love the line a day journal idea. I did a Smash book for the last year of my 20s, but Ive been slacking on my pregnancy book. Can’t wait to see the new project!
